I just watched this tutorial by Eran Stern over at CreativeCow.net. It’s called Color Link. It’s a great tutorial with some simple techniques for working with Shape Layers. But Eran also shows the Color Link effect, which I had never used or even noticed before. Off the top of my head, I could have used this effect at least a dozen times in my work in the last few months, had I know it existed.

(BTW – yeah, shameless plug – that dude is from Crowd Control, our libary of pre-keyed alpha stock footage).

Last night, I had a similar experience with an effect called Magnify. I guess I knew it was there, but I had long forgotten it. I got into a situation where I really needed it, and Dan Ebberts brought it to my attention for a project we’re working on together.

It’s moments like these that make me very much aware of how much there is still to learn…

Don’t forget to visit Eran’s site for some tutorials and project downloads you won’t find at Creative Cow. He also has a new DVD called A New Solid, which I watched, enjoyed,  and heartily recomend.

UPDATE: Eran just emailed me to say that there is a new Stern in town. He and his wife just had a baby girl! Congratulations, Eran, Tasha and the Stern family!

So, enjoy this tutorial. It may be his last for a little bit…

While there is still a lot to learn, I’m absolutely positive you have wealth of knowledge yet to be shared. Keep going Aharon, you are an inspiration!
