Red Giant Quicktip # 13: Create an iPhone UI Animation with Inverse Scaling

In this QuickTip, Aharon Rabinowitz shows you how to apply information from Episode 39 of Red Giant TV (Creating a 1980’s Retro Video Game Look) for use in a much more modern project.

The After Effects expression user here was:

s = 100*transform.scale[0]/parent.transform.scale[0];

[s,s,s]

  1. it was great Aaron, thanks! I love expressions but don’t know the first thing about them. is there a DVD I can buy somewhere that would teach me everything I need to know about expressions?

  2. Thanks very useful but if you want to scale down the icons as they move just put a slider on the null object with a value of one (range value from 1 to 10) and add the following expression on every position property solids
    s=thisComp.layer(“Null 4”).effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”);
    value*s
    Works in 2D and 3D
    Hope it will be useful
