Anyone succeeded in downloading this yet? Every time I’ve tried RG’s download registration page I’m sent to a blank page after hitting the submit button.
Kevin – try another browser. Some versions of Firefox are having trouble with the page. They’re working on it.

I think VC’s optical flares is going to be really cool. And I commend AK for doing it. He’s a good guy and he’s entered into competitive playing filed with what looks to be a great product. Competition is good. It makes everyone work harder for a better product.
But do you really think that John Knoll – ILM’s senior VFX supervisor – is really out for the count? Really?
For the record, I keep hearing how everyone wants flares like in JJ abrams Star Trek (when it was CGI it was KLF), Transformers 1 and 2 (yup, KLF) and the new Star Wars (again, KLF). Oh and Avatar too. All KLF. You’ll be hearing a lot more about it from the man himself – just you wait.

@ Aharon: yup, everyone uses KLF (included me) because Optical Flares is not out yet.
D4 – You have an excellent point. Even though there are several lens flare tools out, right now – the best option is still KLF. Optical Flares, which looks to be fantastic, may overtake it, changing the VFX industry as we know it – but I doubt it, simply because KLF is multi-platform, working in AE, PP, FCP, Motion, and Avid.
That doesn’t discount how great OF may be for AE. I haven’t seen anything other that what Andrew Kramer has shown on-line but it certainly looks sexy. And I hear good things.
I’ll wait to see both what OF offers, and what RG and John Knoll have in mind for the next version of KLF.
We live in interesting VFX times. Good things are coming all around.

Great stuff. Was playing around linking the flares to particular, and the particles themselves work as obscuration for the flare. So nice. Thanks a lot.

Kramer’s plugin is great but it kinda looks too much…to me it’s more for motion graphics rather then for vfx.Only thing i like is how it simulates going out of frame.Anyway i stay with KLF,thx for the tut ,helpful as usual=)
Is it true that flares from transformers are done with KLF???Cuz i heard that they developed smth new especialy for the movie Oo
Val – Knoll Light Factory’s core code is integrated with ILM’s systems. The exact same technology used in Transformers 1 and 2 and the latest Start Trek (when the flares weren’t real) were Knoll Light Factory flares. John Knoll also told me that when he is doing a lot of his work, he uses KLF directly in After Effects.
