In this episode of Red Giant TV, Aharon Rabinowitz shows you how to use Trapcode Form to create the effect of text (or a logo) dissolving to sand and blowing away. You’ll also learn how to reverse the transition, so that sand forms into text. You can see an example video of the end result here.

Elvis Deane did something like this with Particle Illusion, as I remember, which leads me to ask – can you affect people this way? (time to whip out Crowd Control).
yup. You can. And I show a dude getting zapped at the end of the tutorial. He’s all smiley, too. Poor guy didn’t see it coming.
amazing as always, and it can never be said enough, thanks for actually getting detailed enough in your tutorials so we understand what and why rather than just saying do this.
Very neat Aharon!
Thanks for the tutorials!
Dan
Thanks for finally demystifying the Trapcode Form process! It’s such a deep plugin (even moreso than Particular), and it was intimidating to even try to do straightforward effects like this one.
Hey Aharon, I know this isn’t the right place, but I’d like to suggest an idea for a tutorial which I *think* would be a really good subject. What’s the best way to get it to you? (Assuming, of course, you’re open to suggestions.)

Olá Aharon Rabinowitz,
aqui no Amapá (Brasil) é um estado muito carente de instrutores maravilhosos como você. Obrigado pela grande ajuda no AfterEffects. Graças a você, minha edição evoluiu muito.
Hi Aharon,
Been following your tutorials on creativecow for awhile and now this site. Thanks so much for all your hard work. Even though I do not do any after effects for a living, I enjoy it as a hobby (a great way to put off homework). So I just wanted to say thanks for the witty jokes and excellent instruction.
I do have one question. (Sorry for writing it here, I have tried other forums and google) I am trying to choose between an i7 processor or dual xeons to minimize rendering times. However I am told “go for the Core i7 if you are running programs with four or fewer threads and dual Xeon 55xx if you are running programs with more than four threads.”
Do you know how many threads AE CS3 and CS4 use? Thanks again for all your help!
Hi, Aharon I just don´t know what to say, I hope you like baseball. I do and you make hella tutorials. Thanx buddy if I may call you that way.
Very Famous effect, Thanks A lot
Hey !! Aharon !!
Thank you for your great tutorials. Following your instrution, I’ve experienced some problem in my Trapcode Form, after I adjusted the disperse setting, I found some noisy screen in some frames during the preview mode.
Do you have any idea??

Thanks for the tutorial. At the end up the tutorial, you mentioned an upcoming tutorial and had a preview of it. When will this tutorial be available?
It’s written – and I’ll probably record it next week. So… Hopefully soon.
cool tutorial
greetings from Romania :-h

but it wont play at all. pls fix the problem thx
you guys really help a lot of people with ur free tutorial on net, its an eye opener. u av saved & secured some many people ass at there place of work and giving confidence to many. thanks a lot
Matt – Neither – get a MacPro. I’ve done a side-by-side render comparison between my $3k MacPro and the $12k dual-Xeon Dell workstation at my job site… the MP wins by a long margin.
Alex Chan – looks like a graphics engine issue. I don’t know what kind of card you’re using, but try toggling your various graphics settings in AE – things like OpenGL, etc. Once I was trying to use GPU acceleration on a friend’s MacBook that only had shared video – it had similar issues as your TwitPic depicts.
Hey – Aharon, thanks for putting in the time to share your knowledge with the world. We all benefit!
Hey Aharon !! I’ve been following your tuts for ages !! And you always surprise me with something new. Keeping rock !!!!!!!!!
Thanks a million l !
hey aharon!
love your tutorials.
thanks alot from israel.
awsome tutorial i have allready use this technique.
thanks aharon.

Excellent tutorial. 1 question. Instead of having the text blow away, Im trying to figure out how to make it to where I have it implode/explode. So instead of having the particles going from a Linear Wipe, Im trying to figure out how to have them start from the outside of the comp and then form into my text.
Any help or suggestions? Thanks
Thank you for the tutorial. It helped me alot
But where did i find sound fx which fix to it….PLS Help
Nice, Very Nice.
